Telangana's 2026-27 Budget: A Commitment to Welfare and Development

Telangana Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister, Bhatti Vikramarka, presented the state budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 on Friday, announcing a total allocation of ₹3,24,234 crore. This budget, which highlights ₹2,34,406 crore for revenue expenditure and ₹47,267 crore dedicated to capital expenditure, aims to bolster welfare, infrastructure, and rural development.
Highlighting new welfare measures, the budget extends the Mid-day Meal scheme to intermediate students in government junior colleges and introduces motorised vehicle distribution for differently-abled students pursuing higher education. 'We recognize adolescence as a crucial life phase; nutrition is vital for learning and life expectancy,' Vikramarka stated during his budget speech.
The budget earmarks ₹1,000 crore for infrastructure development at Osmania University and ₹400 crore for Veernari Chakali Ailamma Women's University. Significant allocations are directed towards rural and infrastructure sectors, with ₹33,688 crore for Panchayat Raj and Rural Development, ₹26,674 crore for Education, and ₹22,615 crore for Irrigation departments.
Other major allocations include ₹21,285 crore for Power, ₹17,907 crore for Municipal Administration and Urban Development, ₹13,679 crore for Health, and ₹11,784 crore for Scheduled Castes welfare. A ₹6,000 crore allocation for the Rajiv Yuva Vikasa programme underscores the focus on youth skilling with a scholarship initiative for trainees.
