A Hungarian civil rights organization is raising alarms over the presence of Russian President Vladimir Putin's former interpreter in Hungary's election observation team. This comes as Prime Minister Viktor Orban faces possibly his most challenging re-election bid since 2010, amid polling that shows him trailing his center-right competitor.

The Hungarian Helsinki Committee (HHC) has called on the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) to dismiss Daria Boyarskaya from its election monitoring mission. The HHC argues that her involvement could compromise the integrity of the mission, given her past association with Russia's Foreign Ministry.

Despite these concerns, OSCE PA Secretary General Roberto Montella expressed confidence in Boyarskaya in response to concerns from the HHC. The controversy gains complexity as Boyarskaya was previously sanctioned by Poland in 2022, suggesting potential geopolitical ramifications within Europe.
