Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma welcomed the Supreme Court's decision to stay the transit bail granted to Congress leader Pawan Khera in a case related to allegations concerning his wife. The FIR was filed by Riniki Bhuyan Sharma over the controversial passport row.
Upon being questioned about Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's call for an investigation into claims of multiple passports held by Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, CM Sarma retaliated by challenging Gandhi to disclose his own passport publicly. Sarma commented on the legality of the Telangana court granting bail, stating that as Khera is not a resident of Telangana, the law must take its course.
The Supreme Court, while halting the bail, issued a notice to Khera to respond within three weeks to the Assam government's plea. Khera had made allegations about CM Sarma's wife possessing passports from India, the UAE, and Egypt and owning hidden properties in Dubai. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi asserted the party’s stance alongside Khera, demanding a thorough investigation.
