In a fiery address at an election rally in Serampore, Hooghly district, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of prioritizing the wealthy over the poor while failing to create job opportunities. He labeled Modi a 'deshbhakt' in name only, claiming that the PM's actions sell out the nation.

Gandhi further alleged that the country is embroiled in an ideological battle between Congress' unity versus the BJP and RSS' divisiveness. He criticized Modi for implementing demonetization and GST policies that hurt small industries, and claimed a similar destructive path is being followed in West Bengal under Banerjee's leadership, as the state loses its industrial stronghold.

The Congress leader slammed the Modi government for compromising on national interests in the India-US trade deal, expressing concerns over the potential detrimental effects on agriculture and small and medium enterprises. Gandhi declared it's only the Congress that can oppose BJP's ideologies without compromise, arguing for an India united by brotherhood and love as opposed to BJP's governance.
