The Karnataka BJP has formally urged Bengaluru's Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh to cancel an event supporting the jailed activist Umar Khalid. The event's organizers plan to read excerpts from the book "Umar Khalid and His World" and engage in discussions in Bengaluru on April 28.

Led by Bengaluru Central MP P C Mohan, BJP leaders submitted a memorandum insisting that the event glorifies a criminal figure, echoing allegations of conspiracy linked to the 2020 Delhi riots. They warned that supporting Khalid, who faces serious charges and remains denied bail, could promote criminal tendencies.

The BJP noted that pro-Khalid slogans have emerged across the city and claimed maintaining peace necessitates revoking the event's permission. Citing concerns over potential unrest, they asserted the party would not bear responsibility for any resulting law and order issues.
