In a strong statement, Iran's new supreme leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei declared Thursday that the nation will ardently defend its nuclear and missile capabilities as critical national assets, amidst pressure from U.S. President Donald Trump for a deal on these issues.

Khamenei, who assumed leadership after the passing of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, communicated his views through a statement on Iranian state television. He emphasized that Iran's vast scientific and technological capacities are cherished by 'ninety million proud and honourable Iranians' both domestically and abroad.

Reinforcing his stance, Khamenei remarked that foreign forces, particularly Americans, have no rightful presence in the Persian Gulf region, anticipating a future where regional harmony prevails without external interference.
