Sheikh Abdul Rashid, alias Engineer Rashid, was temporarily released from Tihar Jail on Thursday after receiving a one-week interim bail to visit his ailing father in Srinagar. The Delhi High Court granted this reprieve amid an ongoing trial in a terror-funding case against Rashid.

Arriving at Srinagar airport, Rashid, the Lok Sabha member representing Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla, headed directly to SMHS hospital where his father is being treated. Officials confirmed the court's mandate that Rashid will be accompanied by two plainclothes police officers during his visits.

The court's decision follows Rashid's appeal against an earlier denial of bail in a trial court. Rashid, who was apprehended by the National Investigation Agency in 2019, has been charged with severe offenses, including funding separatists and terrorism activities in the region.
