Assam Election Showdown: Who Will Seize Power?

The final stage of Assam's electoral battle unfolds as votes are counted to determine whether the BJP-led NDA secures a third term or Congress takes charge. With 722 candidates vying for 126 assembly seats, a high voter turnout and tight security define this decisive phase in Assam's political journey.

The state's political landscape could witness a significant shift as the final phase of Assam's assembly elections reaches a crucial juncture. The much-awaited vote counting on Monday will reveal if the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) retains power for a third consecutive term or if the Congress manages to stage a comeback. This election season in Assam has been dominated by themes of identity politics, regional aspirations, and debates over welfare delivery.

A total of 722 candidates from 126 assembly constituencies await their fate, as Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be opened across 40 counting centers in all 35 districts. Tight security arrangements have been made to ensure smooth proceedings, with 25 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) safeguarding the venues. Furthermore, 800 unarmed police officers will assist in handling EVMs on the day of counting.

The political stakes are high, with notable figures like Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi among the contenders. The BJP-led NDA and its allies are up against an opposition coalition featuring the Congress, Raijor Dal, and other regional parties.
