The Congress party is set to hold a protest march in Buldhana district, Maharashtra, on May 4 against the ruling BJP's policies that it claims harm the farming community. The march will be spearheaded by state Congress president Harshwardhan Sapkal, drawing participation from party leaders, members, and farmers.
Raising concerns about the plight of farmers over the past 12 years under BJP governance, the Congress expressed dissatisfaction with the current agricultural landscape. They argue that inadequate crop prices and inflation have made farming increasingly untenable, citing Maharashtra's high farmer suicide rate as a consequence.
The Congress is calling for significant measures including comprehensive loan waivers, fair crop prices, and additional financial support. They also seek the removal of GST on farming inputs and demand improvements in agricultural infrastructure, such as processing industries for farm produce, along with staffing of vacant education posts in Zilla Parishad.
