Chaos in Imphal: A Deadly Reminder of Burning Ethnic Divides

In a stark reminder of the lingering ethnic tensions in Manipur, suspected militants triggered a bomb explosion near the Imphal airport on Sunday.

The blast coincided with the third anniversary of the ethnic conflict between the Meitei and Kuki communities, although it resulted in no casualties or property damage. The Kangleipak Communist Party has claimed responsibility, protesting constant disruptions in the state.

This comes after ethnic violence beginning in May 2023 left hundreds dead, displacing thousands, and led to the imposition of President's rule, only recently lifted as BJP's Y Khemchand Singh became chief minister.
