MV Govindan, State Secretary of CPI(M) in Kerala, has expressed confidence that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) will retain power in the ongoing Kerala Assembly Elections 2026. Early postal ballot trends appear to be in line with expectations, according to Govindan, reinforcing their belief in a decisive victory.
Counting commenced at 8 a.m. across Kerala's 140 counting centres, with initial postal ballot results showing the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) leading in approximately 75 seats, overshadowing the LDF's 58. Of particular note is the situation in Kollam district, where EVMs are being processed under tight security after the opening of strong rooms.
In Malappuram district, the UDF has shown significant advancement, with key candidates such as PK Kunhalikutty and KM Shaji leading in their respective constituencies. Meanwhile, trends in other regions like Tamil Nadu and West Bengal reveal focused efforts by electoral authorities to ensure smooth counting, addressing any minor issues effectively.
