Sunetra Pawar's Triumphant Run in Baramati Bypoll
Sunetra Pawar, the Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader, dominates the Baramati assembly bypoll, benefiting from a sympathy wave and strong family ties. Following her husband's tragic death, Pawar is likely to secure a significant victory, with no major opposition fielding candidates against her.

As vote counting advanced on Monday in the Baramati assembly bypoll, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader Sunetra Pawar appeared to be comfortably ahead of her competitors. The Election Commission's website showed that in the Rahuri assembly seat byelection, BJP's Akshay Kardile led his rivals. Both polls took place on April 23.
By the conclusion of the sixth counting round, Pawar had accumulated 53,478 votes, while 21 of the 22 lesser-known candidates struggled to reach 200 votes. The Baramati constituency, within Pune district, had a voter turnout of 58.27%. The bypoll was warranted following the previous NCP president Ajit Pawar's death in a plane crash on January 28.
Sunetra Pawar is anticipated to win her first assembly poll with a significant margin, capitalizing on a sympathy vote and her family's political influence. Notably, no established political party opposed her candidacy. The opposition MVA refrained from fielding an opponent, effectively offering her a walkover. Pawar aims to fulfill constitutional requirements by becoming a state legislature member within six months of assuming her deputy chief minister role.
