Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury's Political Comeback: A Tough Battle in Baharampur

This contest is crucial for Chowdhury, especially after losing his long-held Lok Sabha seat in 2024 to TMC's Yusuf Pathan, leading to his resignation as state Congress chief.

Senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury is trailing BJP's Subrata Maitra by 5,266 votes in the significant Baharampur Assembly seat, according to Election Commission data. Maitra, the sitting MLA, has secured 31,365 votes, while Chowdhury has garnered 26,099 votes so far.
Trinamool's Naru Gopal Mukherjee, who was the runner-up in the 2021 state polls, is currently placed third with 13,295 votes. In total, 15 rounds of counting are set to determine the final outcome in Baharampur.
Chowdhury's political career faced a setback during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections when he lost to TMC candidate Yusuf Pathan. Undeterred, he aims for a comeback in 2026, choosing to contest from Baharampur in a fiercely contested three-way fight.
