Assam's political landscape sees an assertive demonstration of influence as Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma secures a substantial lead in the Jalukbari constituency, underscoring his political prowess in the state. According to the Election Commission, Sarma's dominance is reflected in the 63,029-vote lead over his nearest rival, Congress candidate Bidisha Neog.
In the thirteenth round of counting, Sarma, representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), garnered 89,562 votes, while Neog managed to secure 26,533. This commanding lead positions Sarma to retain the Jalukbari seat for the sixth consecutive term, a testament to his enduring appeal and strategic leadership.
Notably, Sarma's journey in the Jalukbari constituency began with a loss in 1996, but since his maiden victory in 2001, his margins of victory have consistently broadened, marked by a remarkable record of a 1,01,000-vote margin in 2021.
