In the recent Kerala Assembly elections, Union Minister George Kurian, overseeing Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Minority Affairs, finished third in Kanjirappally constituency. His candidacy was a strategic move by the BJP, considering the large Christian demographic.
Throughout the election, Kurian trailed behind Congress candidate Rony K Baby, who won with 56,646 votes, and incumbent MLA N Jayaraj of Kerala Congress, who secured 50,874 votes. When the votes were counted through 15 of 16 rounds, Kurian had received 26,984 votes as declared by the Election Commission.
Despite Kurian's loss in Kanjirappally, the BJP found reasons to celebrate with victories in the Nemom and Chathannoor constituencies, marking significant successes in the regional political landscape.
