In a bid to extend its influence beyond its traditional base, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) took a significant step by contesting 16 seats in the Assam assembly elections. Although the party did not secure any seats, it made an impression by achieving runner-up positions in two constituencies.
According to party officials, JMM gained a 1.18% vote share, surpassing well-established parties like CPI, CPI(M), and CPI(ML) Liberation. The campaign, led by Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, was particularly focused on Assam's tea tribe community, emphasizing tribal issues.
The party intends to continue its efforts in Assam, seeking to build its political footprint in the northeastern state. Soren, who has previously focused on tribal advocacy, remains committed to engaging with Assam’s diverse communities.
