JMM's Bold Foray into Assam Elections Highlights Tribal Advocacy

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) made a spirited attempt in Assam's assembly elections by contesting 16 seats in the 126-member house. Despite not winning any seats, JMM announced a breakthrough as it placed second in two constituencies, showcasing a significant entry into the state's political landscape.

Under the leadership of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, JMM captured a 1.17% vote share, surpassing the combined votes of CPI, CPI(M), and CPI(ML) Liberation. Soren expressed gratitude to Assam's people, emphasizing the party's strategic electoral efforts without major alliances, and highlighted their commitment to tribal advocacy.

The party's noteworthy candidates, Phedricson Hasdak and Priti Rekha Barla, secured second positions in Gossaigaon and Mazbat constituencies, respectively, with substantial vote shares. JMM plans to continue its advocacy for tribal rights, considering this electoral engagement as a step toward deeper political influence in Assam.
