In a recent press conference, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed discontent over allegations made by Congress leader Pawan Khera against Sarma's wife. According to the CM, these allegations were an attempt to tarnish the reputation of an Assamese woman and influenced the electoral outcome.
The controversy stemmed from Khera's claims that Sarma's wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, possessed multiple passports and had undisclosed foreign business connections. Both Sarma and his wife vehemently denied these allegations, with Riniki filing a police complaint against Khera.
Sarma suggested that these allegations, alongside Congress state president Gaurav Gogoi's support of Khera, contributed to Gogoi's electoral loss. The animosity between the parties highlights the high-stakes nature of Assam's political landscape.
