CPI(M)'s Lone Victory in West Bengal: A Symbolic Win
The CPI(M) secured a solitary victory in the West Bengal assembly elections, winning the Domkal seat. This marked a significant moment as the Left Front had failed to win any seats in the 2021 state and past Lok Sabha elections. Md Mostafijur Rahaman emerged triumphant from the Left Front.

The Communist Party of India (Marxist), or CPI(M), secured a significant win in the recent West Bengal assembly elections, capturing the Domkal constituency in Murshidabad district. This victory stands out because the CPI(M) had faced a dry spell without wins in the 2021 state elections and prior Lok Sabha elections.
Md Mostafijur Rahaman, representing the Left Front, led the CPI(M) to this symbolic triumph by defeating his nearest Trinamool Congress (TMC) rival by a margin of 16,296 votes, as per data from the Election Commission. This singular win highlights the challenge faced by the Left in a state where they once dominated.
The broader Left Front fielded candidates in a total of 252 constituencies, with the CPI(M) competing in 195 of them. Despite this effort, the solitary Domkal seat win underlines the challenges ahead for Left parties seeking resurgence in West Bengal's political landscape.
