Britain Targets Exploitive Networks in Russia Sanctions
Britain has imposed sanctions on 35 people and entities involved in recruiting vulnerable migrants for Russia and producing drones for the Ukraine conflict. The measures target trafficking networks and exploitative recruitment programs primarily affecting individuals from Cameroon.
Britain on Tuesday announced stringent sanctions targeting 35 individuals and entities accused of recruiting vulnerable migrants to aid Russia, particularly in the context of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. These entities are also involved in creating drones for wartime use.
The Foreign Office detailed 17 designations under their global irregular migration sanctions regime. These pertain to trafficking networks alleged to transport people explicitly to the front lines as expendable resources. Further, 18 designations were outlined under the Russia sanctions regime for deceptive recruitment practices primarily affecting Cameroonian migrants.
Sanctions Minister Stephen Doughty condemned the exploitation, stating, "The practice of exploiting vulnerable people to support Russia's illegal war in Ukraine is barbaric." He emphasized that the sanctions aim to hinder the operations of organizations trafficking migrants and supplying Russian drone factories with illicit components.
