The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), spearheaded by the charismatic Vijay, is poised on the brink of a historical political shift in Tamil Nadu. Sources indicate that Vijay may meet Governor Rajendra Arlekar shortly, with plans to take the Chief Minister’s oath on May 7, after securing 108 seats in the assembly elections, making a notable debut.

The seismic victory of TVK upends decades of political dominance by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). Despite falling just 10 seats shy of a majority in the 234-member assembly, TVK is expected to garner support from smaller parties like Congress and PMK to reach the governing threshold.

The election results sent shockwaves through the political landscape, with outgoing Chief Minister MK Stalin succumbing to TVK's VS Babu in Kolathur by a margin of 8,795 votes. DMK's representation was reduced to 59 seats, marking a steep decline. Meanwhile, Governor Arlekar has accepted Stalin’s resignation but requested him to continue until the new administration takes over.

Vijay’s ascendancy heralds a new chapter in Tamil Nadu’s history, ending the longstanding political reign of the DMK and AIADMK since 1977. This shift also affirms Vijay’s position as a formidable actor-turned-politician, joining the likes of NT Rama Rao and MG Ramachandran. Key alliance leaders are gearing up to meet Stalin to strategize future steps in the evolving political arena.
