Tripura CM to attend swearing-in ceremonies of BJP govts in Bengal, Assam

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Friday said he will attend the swearing-in ceremonies of BJP-led governments in West Bengal and Assam on May 9 and 12, respectively. In the recently concluded Assembly polls, the BJP came to power in West Bengal for the first time by winning 207 seats in the 294-member House.

The party improved its performance in Assam to win 82 seats in the 126-member Assembly and retain power for a third straignt consecutive term. Interacting with reporters, Saha said, ''I am going to Kolkata to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the first BJP government on Saturday. I will also join the oath-taking ceremony of the BJP-led NDA government in Assam on May 12.'' He said the BJP's streak of wins in states under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has special significance in the country's political spectrum. ''I have visited some places in West Bengal as part of an election campaign and sensed a wind of change. It was ultimately a landslide victory for the BJP, which seems beyond expectation,'' he said. Saha also took a swipe at Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee for not tendering her resignation from the chief minister's post after the defeat. ''Despite a humiliating defeat at the hands of the BJP in the crucial Assembly election, Mamata Banerjee has refused to resign! It will also be remembered as a historic event'', he said. Earlier in the day, the Tripura chief minister distributed 115 appointment letters among the eligible job aspirants.
