Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said West Bengal election results have given relief to people across the country, which means suffering of citizens in the eastern state was immense. The BJP put up a stunning performance in the West Bengal polls, results of which were announced on May 4, winning 207 seats in the 294-member assembly, in the process ending the 15-year rule of the Trinamool Congress under Mamata Banerjee. The TMC ended up with just 80 seats. Speaking at a felicitation programme after his arrival here on a two day visit of Gujarat, the PM said such an impact of any election has rarely been felt. Election results of West Bengal are being discussed internationally and big people are taking note of it, he added. ''Have fought many elections, won many. Winning and losing goes on. But in elections of West Bengal, people all over the country felt a great sense of relief after change of guard in that state. It means suffering of people in Bengal was immense,'' Modi said. ''In West Bengal, around 300 BJP workers have sacrificed their lives,'' he pointed out. Speaking about the Gujarat local body polls, the prime minister said its results could be a subject of study for experts on why people have voted for the same party again and again. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had swept the local body elections, results of which were announced late last month, winning all 15 municipal corporations that went to the polls and 33 out of 34 district panchayats.
