ANC Reignites Ramaphosa Impeachment Over 'Farmgate'

South Africa's ANC has convened a critical meeting following a court ruling that reopens impeachment proceedings against President Cyril Ramaphosa concerning the 'Farmgate' scandal, which involves the alleged theft of foreign currency from his game farm. Ramaphosa denies wrongdoing, attributing the funds to buffalo sales.

In light of a recent court ruling, South Africa's African National Congress (ANC) has scheduled a crucial meeting to address the revived impeachment proceedings against President Cyril Ramaphosa linked to the infamous 'Farmgate' scandal.

The scandal revolves around the alleged theft of a substantial sum of foreign currency from a sofa on Ramaphosa's Phala Phala game farm in 2020. Acknowledging the constitutional court's decision, Ramaphosa has dismissed allegations of misconduct, stating the money stemmed from the sale of buffaloes.

Previously in 2022, the ANC blocked efforts to establish an impeachment committee to further investigate the incident. However, the constitutional court has now mandated the speaker of the National Assembly to initiate the impeachment process.
