The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has unleashed a wave of criticism against DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin, accusing him of fuelling 'Sanatan hatred' for electoral gain. Udhayanidhi reiterated his contentious call for the 'abolition' of Sanatan Dharma, claiming it creates societal division.
Despite facing legal action and criticism for similar comments in September 2023, Udhayanidhi has persisted in his stance, which the BJP views as a deliberate incitement against Sanatan Dharma to benefit from vote-bank politics. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla slammed the DMK's resistance to alter its anti-Sanatan approach, noting they haven't learned from electoral setbacks.
This renewed attack on Sanatan Dharma has echoed through the opposition ranks, with leaders like M K Stalin, Gaurav Gogoi, and Mamata Banerjee facing criticism for their perceived silence or support. The issue has further polarized the political climate in Tamil Nadu, as Udhayanidhi voices his disapproval over the treatment of 'Tamil Thai Vazhuthu' in the state's ceremony order.
