In a significant legal development, the Bankshall Court in Kolkata on Tuesday ordered a 10-day Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody for former West Bengal Minister Sujit Bose. This follows his arrest on Monday night by central agency officials in connection with the alleged municipal recruitment scam.

The ED's probe revolves around substantial allegations, suggesting large-scale irregularities in the hiring processes within West Bengal's municipal bodies. The agency claims that processes were bypassed for illicit gains, with Bose recommending around 150 candidates for numerous municipal posts in exchange for financial rewards.

Bose's arrest is part of a broader initiative by the ED to address suspected corruption in public appointments across West Bengal. His family, maintaining confidence in the legal system, vowed to pursue all available legal channels. Meanwhile, the BJP has seized upon the arrest, with MLA Sajal Ghosh emphasizing Bose had been 'destined for jail'.
