Brazil's Presidential Race: Lula and Bolsonaro Neck-and-Neck

A recent Quaest survey commissioned by Genial indicates a dead heat between Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Senator Flavio Bolsonaro in the potential runoff for the upcoming presidential election. Lula is ahead with 42% of votes, closely followed by Bolsonaro at 41%.

The poll highlights a shift from April when Bolsonaro had slightly more support. In a first-round preview, Lula commands 39%, Bolsonaro trails at 33%, with other right-wing candidates Ronaldo Caiado and Romeu Zema each securing 4%.

Brazilian law mandates a second-round vote if no candidate attains more than 50% of valid votes. This year's election, set for October, will see intense competition in Latin America's largest economy. The survey, conducted with 2,004 respondents from May 8-11, has a margin of error of two percentage points.
