On Wednesday, seasoned diplomat P Kumaran took up his role as India's High Commissioner-designate to the United Kingdom. As a distinguished 1992-batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service, Kumaran has previously held the position of Secretary (East) within the Ministry of External Affairs.

He succeeds Vikram Doraiswami, who has transitioned to China's embassy as India's Ambassador. The High Commission of India in London expressed a warm welcome for Kumaran, looking forward to enhancing the enduring India-UK partnership under his stewardship.

Kumaran, who is multilingual in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Arabic, previously served as Ambassador to Qatar and High Commissioner to Singapore. His UK tenure will officially commence following a ceremonial presentation of credentials to King Charles III.
