Brazilian markets faced turmoil on Wednesday amid reports of Senator Flavio Bolsonaro's alleged involvement with scandal-ridden banker Daniel Vorcaro. The revelation, published by Intercept Brasil, suggests that Bolsonaro secured $24 million for a film about his father, former President Jair Bolsonaro.

The controversy led to Brazil's currency devaluing by over 2%, closing above 5 per U.S. dollar for the first time this month. The Bovespa stock index also took a hit, closing 1.8% lower. The report claims an audio message from Flavio Bolsonaro requested installment payments for the film's production.

Bolsonaro admitted that Vorcaro had agreed to finance the movie, which he described as a 'private sponsorship' without any reciprocal benefits. Daniel Vorcaro is currently facing legal issues linked to fraudulent activities at Banco Master, which the central bank liquidated in November. The fallout from these allegations could impact the upcoming presidential election, where Bolsonaro is a key contender.
