Heightened security measures have been enacted at the AIADMK headquarters as tensions within the party escalate. On Thursday, additional police personnel were deployed to prevent incidents similar to last year's violent faction clashes that resulted in extensive damage to the premises.

The rift has created two major factions: one led by general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami and another spearheaded by dissidents C Ve Shanugm and S P Velumani. The division became more pronounced after a floor test in the Tamil Nadu assembly, where 25 AIADMK MLAs from the Velumani-Shanmugam camp defected to support the ruling TVK, which now has a strengthened position with 144 seats in the 234-member House.

Following these developments, Edappadi K Palaniswami took decisive action by removing the dissident MLAs from key party positions. Supporters have gathered at his residence, where he is expected to conduct strategic meetings with party MLAs and senior leaders. Legal steps are being considered, with an AIADMK advocate likely to meet the assembly speaker to lodge a disqualification complaint against the defectors.
