In a strategic political move, Chief Minister N Rangasamy has resigned from his post at the Thattanchavady Assembly constituency, opting instead to retain his seat in Mangalam.

The decision followed his victory in both constituencies during the April 9 Assembly polls where he emerged victorious against MP V Vaithilingam in Thattanchavady.

Rangasamy, who has been a dominant force in Thattanchavady since 1985, assumed office on May 13 alongside ministers A Namassivayam and Malladi Krishna Rao. A notification declaring the vacancy at Thattanchavady is expected soon.
