The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) has officially assumed power in Kerala, with senior leaders Ramesh Chennithala, Sunny Joseph, and K Muraleedharan taking oath as ministers. This political shift comes as VD Satheesan, chosen over Chennithala for Chief Minister, forms a new government following the UDF's victory in the 2026 Assembly elections.
Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar oversaw the swearing-in ceremony at Thiruvananthapuram's Central Stadium, attended by prominent political figures like Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Notably, representatives from Congress-ruled states, such as Karnataka's Siddaramaiah and Telangana's A Revanth Reddy, were present, signifying broad party support.
The Cabinet, promising social and regional balance, incorporates a diverse range of leaders, including IUML's PK Basheer and others. The UDF's landslide victory, securing 102 of 140 Assembly seats, underscores a decisive shift in Keralam's political landscape, relegating the Left Democratic Front to 35 seats while the BJP remains a minimal presence.
