The BJP on Tuesday accused Rahul Gandhi of trying to create confusion and chaos by spreading misinformation on the health of the country's economy and asked the Congress leader if he is acting at the behest of some ''anti-India forces''.

''We want a categorical and clear answer. What is the hand behind this strategy?.

''Who is prompting you or forcing you? Under whose compulsion you are always attacking the Indian institutions and in this case economic institutions,'' BJP national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi asked the Congress leader.

This came after Gandhi warned of a massive economic storm moving inexorably towards the country, the likes of which ''we have never experienced''.

Slamming Prime Minister Narendra Modi for flying off on a five-nation tour right after his appeal to the people to refrain from going abroad, the Congress leader also said that the grand economic structure built by Adani-Ambani will collapse in the storm but the tycoons will be in their palaces while the common person will bear the brunt.

Gandhi was speaking to reporters after addressing a gathering in Raebareli, the Congress MP's Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

Reacting sharply to the Congress leader's remarks, Trivedi said, ''Rahul Gandhi, who has failed in creating anarchy on the linguistic, regional and caste lines, now appears to be engaging in the politics of confusion and misinformation to create chaos in the economic sphere.''.

''I want to ask the Congress and Rahul Gandhi who is the real face behind your mask? Who is the real mind behind your words?'' he added.

The BJP Rajya Sabha MP said that the Indian economy, under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, is ''progressing'' even amid ''a very adverse global situation'' and its proof is the recent appreciation by International Monetary Fund (IMF) chief Kristalina Georgieva.

The IMF chief recently noted that ''India's growth is almost double the global growth because fundamentals of the Indian economy are very strong'', Trivedi added.

The BJP leader alleged that the Congress has always stood by the foreign companies and foreign media.

''They stood by Union Carbide in 1984, Bofors in 1988, Howitzer and then AgustaWestland… They stood by Greta Thunberg and then Hindenburg Report,'' he said.

''Today, the nation seeks an answer from Rahul Gandhi and the Congress. Why is it that you are invariably found in the league of foreign companies?.

''Why do you constantly target every Indian institution, be it the government or non-government? Is the reason for this a pact entered into by the Congress under mysterious circumstances? Or does it stem from connections linking Rahul Gandhi and the Congress Party to anti-India forces?'' he added.
