Plea in SC seeks CBI probe into 'corruption' in trust vote win by Vijay's TVK in Tamil Nadu Assembly

A plea has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking a CBI probe into corruption allegations surrounding Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam chief Vijay's trust vote win in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.

A plea was filed in the Supreme Court on Wednesday seeking a CBI probe into the allegations of corruption in the trust vote won by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam chief Vijay in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.

Chief Minister Vijay won the trust vote in the state Assembly by 144 votes in favour and 22 against on May 13.

Alleging that the Assembly floor test in Tamil Nadu was reportedly not being carried out according to democratic principles, the petition filed by Madurai resident K K Ramesh claimed that the TVK had won 108 seats but obtained the signatures of 12 MLAs overnight from various parties.

The plea has also sought a direction for the imposition of President's Rule in Tamil Nadu until the investigation is completed.

''In the Tamil Nadu Assembly, some MLAs from other parties were allegedly involved in horse-trading, and huge amounts of money were handed over to certain MLAs by TVK. There are allegations that compromises were made and large sums of money were distributed to them.

''Therefore, the Assembly should be dissolved, and the matter should be handed over to the CBI for a full investigation. Until the CBI investigation is completed, governance in Tamil Nadu should be placed under President Rule,'' the plea said.
