CPI-ML Liberation general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya on Saturday charged the ruling BJP in Bihar with having given up on ''development with justice'' and ushered in ''a reign of encounters and bulldozers''.
Addressing a press conference about a month after Samrat Choudhary became the chief minister of Bihar, Bhattacharya claimed that the priorities of the BJP were detrimental to rule of law.
''It is not just that Nitish Kumar has been made to step down as the chief minister. The political discourse and governance model, too, have been upended. 'Sushasan' (good governance) and 'nyay ke saath vikas' (development with justice) are no longer the government's motto,'' said Bhattacharya, whose party has formed alliances with the JD(U) on a couple of occasions.
The Left leader alleged that ''under the BJP, encounters and bulldozers have become the buzzwords. But we must remember that a reign of encounters and bulldozers signifies that the rule of law has collapsed''.
He claimed that the state is now faced with the spectre of displacement of people on a large scale in the name of drives against encroachments, communal tensions, lynching and brutal repression of movements led by farmers, labourers, students and unemployed youth.
Referring to the ''Cockroach Janata Party'', the CPI(ML)(L) leader said, ''It may be a largely internet phenomenon but, nonetheless, it echoes the voice of the country's anguished youth. So, we support it. The clampdown on its social media profiles is proof that the Narendra Modi government at the Centre, which likes to intimidate its opponents, is now itself scared.''.
Bhattacharya also questioned the fairness of recently held assembly polls in neighbouring West Bengal, where the BJP upstaged Trinamool Congress in the elections held after ''an SIR that was far more worse than the exercise held in Bihar''.
''Millions of people were denied a chance to vote because their claims were not adjudicated by the tribunal in time. Moreover, while the Election Commission boasted of turnouts that broke all records, a closer look at the polling suggests that at many places, it took less than 40 seconds for every person to cast vote. This raises serious doubts over the way elections were held,'' alleged Bhattacharya.
He also referred to the controversy around slaughter of cows ahead of the Bakrid festival in West Bengal and charged the BJP with ''disrupting the communal harmony that prevailed since ages by pursuing a disruptive agenda''.
