The Election Commission has released the schedule for the upcoming biennial polls to nine crucial seats of the Bihar legislative council, including a seat vacated by Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary. This announcement, made on Tuesday, sets the stage for significant political maneuvering within the state.
Additionally, the EC declared a bypoll for the legislative council seat vacated by former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar following his election to the Rajya Sabha. The simultaneous polls and by-election are slated for June 18, with results to be declared the same evening, ensuring that the entire process is wrapped up by June 20.
As per the detailed schedule, election notifications will be issued on June 1, with the window for filing nominations closing on June 8. Following scrutiny on June 9, candidates will have until June 11 to rescind their nominations, should they choose to do so. The political atmosphere intensifies as notable MLCs like Kumud Verma and Ghulam Ghous conclude their terms this month.
