India Urges Reform of UN Security Council's 'Frozen' Framework

India has pressed for significant reforms within the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), describing its current design as outdated and insufficient. Addressing a debate chaired by China, Indian envoy Harish Parvathaneni emphasized the need to modernize the Council's architecture to better address contemporary global challenges.

Parvathaneni argued that the UNSC must be dynamic, able to evolve, and inclusive in its membership to remain relevant in today's world. He highlighted India's longstanding efforts for UNSC reform, citing historical inequities and the necessity of expanding permanent membership to include developing nations.
