Zelenskiy Appeals for Enhanced U.S. Air Defense Support
President Zelenskiy has called on the U.S. for enhanced air defense support, highlighting Ukraine's need for Patriot missiles to counteract Russian ballistic threats. He stresses the urgency for deliveries amidst growing tensions, as Russian forces continue missile assaults, with U.S. support deemed crucial for Ukraine's defense strategy.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has made an urgent plea to U.S. President Donald Trump for increased support in air defense systems amid escalating threats from Russia. In a letter seen by Reuters, Zelenskiy emphasized the critical need for U.S.-supplied Patriot missiles to offset Russia's ballistic missile capabilities.
Zelenskiy's letter, addressed to Trump and the U.S. Congress, highlighted the ongoing shortage of interceptors crucial for the Patriot air defense systems, which Ukraine is purchasing through NATO’s PURL initiative. The Ukrainian President warned that the current delivery pace does not meet the growing threat, as Russia continues its aggressive missile strikes.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported that out of 30 missiles launched by Russia in a recent attack, 11 were intercepted. Zelenskiy underscored the importance of U.S. support in maintaining Ukraine's defense against Russian aggression, calling for swift and decisive action to address this imbalance on the battlefield.
