Vice Admiral Swaminathan Steps Up as New Naval Chief

Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, recognized for his extensive military expertise and strategic insights, has been officially appointed as the next Chief of the Naval Staff. Marking the occasion, he paid a farewell courtesy visit to the Governor of Maharashtra, Jishnu Dev Varma, at the Maharashtra Lok Bhavan in Mumbai. The Governor extended his warm congratulations and wished him success in his new leadership role.
Vice Admiral Swaminathan took over as the 34th Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command on July 31, 2025. He boasts a distinguished naval career, having joined the Indian Navy on July 1, 1987, with specializations in Communication and Electronic Warfare. His academic credentials include studies at the National Defence Academy, the United Kingdom's Joint Services Command and Staff College, the College of Naval Warfare in Karanja, and the United States Naval War College in Newport.
Throughout his career, Vice Admiral Swaminathan has earned accolades such as the Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, and Vishisht Seva Medal. He has commanded significant naval vessels and advanced training and operational safety initiatives. With his promotion to Vice Admiral, he played pivotal roles, including as the Chief of Staff of the Western Naval Command, ultimately serving as Vice Chief of the Naval Staff before this new appointment. His diverse educational background enhances his strategic leadership capabilities.
