During a visit to families affected by post-poll violence in Sonarpur, West Bengal, Abhishek Banerjee, the Trinamool Congress national general secretary, was attacked by a mob throwing stones, eggs, and insults. Attempting to shield himself with a cricket helmet, Banerjee accused BJP activists of seeking to assassinate him.
The conflict escalated as unidentified individuals clashed with the leader, chanting derogatory slogans. Despite police reinforcement only arriving later, local women vehemently protested Banerjee's presence, accusing him and TMC-run groups of neglect and extortion. Opposing political parties continue to exchange blame, with BJP denying any involvement in the unrest.
