Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Tuesday criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for maintaining silence on the ongoing conflict in West Asia. Ramesh tied this silence to rising tensions between Israel and Lebanon, as well as U.S.-Iran negotiations which aim to de-escalate the situation.

In a post on X, Ramesh highlighted the strategic significance for India, should the negotiations lead to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, potentially easing global oil prices. However, he noted the diplomatic impasse due to Israel's military incursions into Lebanon.

Ramesh pointed out criticisms from various countries against Israel's actions in Lebanon, while underscoring PM Modi's lack of commentary. He questioned if Modi prioritizes his 'fatherland' over his 'motherland' amidst the geopolitical turmoil.
