In a dramatic turn of events, West Bengal's Trinamool Congress (TMC) is grappling with internal upheaval, as BJP leader and Cabinet Minister Dilip Ghosh predicts the collapse of what he calls the party's 'family rule'. Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's criticism of dynastic politics, Ghosh attributes the TMC's internal dissent to a broader shift away from nepotistic practices in Indian political landscapes.

On Wednesday, a faction of TMC's rebel MLAs, including expelled leaders Ritabrata Banerjee and Sandipan Saha, claimed the support of 58 legislators. They rejected the party's official choice, Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay, for the role of Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the West Bengal Assembly. They presented a letter to the Speaker, demanding formal recognition of Banerjee as the LoP.

With the possibility of a formal split looming, the anti-defection law's two-thirds threshold could be surpassed by the rebel group. Meanwhile, in response to this turmoil, the TMC dissolved all its committees and frontal organizations, pledging a comprehensive reorganization to better prepare the party for future challenges.
