In a scathing critique, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of orchestrating defections within the Trinamool Congress (TMC), drawing parallels to similar political dynamics observed in Maharashtra. This comes in response to reports of 20 TMC MPs reportedly addressing the Lok Sabha Speaker regarding the unrest.
Sawant stated that such political maneuvers cannot occur without the backing of influential parties, and he questioned the rationale behind lawmakers abandoning the party ticket that secured their electoral victories. He condemned the alleged BJP tactics as detrimental to democratic principles and voter expectations.
The Shiv Sena leader expressed concerns over attempts to politically isolate the TMC in West Bengal, specifically addressing West Bengal's Leader of Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari. Sawant recalled allegations of Adhikari’s past political affiliations and accusations, reflecting on the broader patterns of defections and realignments highlighted by opposition parties amidst upcoming elections.
