Stalled Mediation: Witkoff and Kushner's Diplomatic Balancing Act

Despite ongoing tensions, there are no planned discussions between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov. However, American negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner continue their diplomatic efforts.

The mediation process, which stalled in February after U.S. and Israeli military actions against Iran, sees ongoing contact with Russian and Ukrainian officials. While Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy expressed optimism after recent discussions, future visits from the negotiators remain unscheduled.

European involvement in these efforts remains a problematic frontier, as Russia deems such intervention unacceptable. Peskov emphasized that European initiatives seem more focused on warfare continuation rather than peace talks.
