Amid escalating political tensions within the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), a faction comprising 20 MPs has announced their merger with the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI). This bold move shifts their allegiance to the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), a significant political realignment in Indian politics.

Shantanu Dey, the founder of NCPI, expressed surprise at the development, having learned of it from media reports. He conveyed openness to discussions with the rebel MPs and welcomed the potential growth of his party. Dey emphasized NCPI's support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the possibility of engaging more closely with the NDA.

Rebel MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar stated that over two-thirds of AITC's strength has shifted to NCPI following a meeting with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. The group has formally requested a separate sitting in Parliament, indicating their intention to collaborate under PM Modi's leadership and work towards nation-building with the NDA.
