In a letter addressed to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, rebel Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar has sought the expulsion of party colleague Kalyan Banerjee from the Lok Sabha. The request centers on allegations of repeated verbal abuse and misogynistic behaviour towards women parliamentarians, breaching parliamentary decorum.
Dastidar, representing West Bengal's Barasat constituency, highlighted a previous complaint dated May 28, 2026, urging immediate intervention. She accused Banerjee of employing disrespectful language during House proceedings, which she argues is detrimental to the participation of women MPs and impairs the parliamentary standards expected of elected officials.
The complaint underscores a pattern of misconduct allegedly perpetuated by Banerjee, pointing to personal attacks and harassment that violate parliamentary propriety. Asserting that such behavior contravenes Rules 349 and 352 of Lok Sabha's conduct guidelines, Dastidar insists that parliamentary privileges should not permit personal abuse or intimidation. Her plea for expulsion coincides with a wider rebellion within the TMC, marked by a mass defection of MPs to the Nationalist Citizens Party of India.
