On Monday, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh launched a sharp critique against Union Home Minister Amit Shah, alleging that Shah was the mastermind behind the 'illegal breakaway' of 20 Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs. Ramesh claims these MPs have joined a previously unknown political entity, describing the move as part of Shah's strategy to boost the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Lok Sabha.
Ramesh accused Shah of lowering democratic standards and dishonoring the legacy of Sardar Patel. He also critiqued the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI) merger, warning that it could undermine the influence of established NDA allies like the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)].
NCPI's national organising secretary, Shantanu Dey, expressed surprise at the developments but welcomed the new members. Dey emphasized growth and collaboration with the NDA, as TMC's rebel members, such as Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, solidify their alignment with the ruling coalition.
