The parliamentary impasse in Tonga has got the government in quicksand. A series of walkouts from the parliament occurred over the past week as the government tried to pass six bills under 'urgency'. Prime Minister Akilisi Pohiva was asked by the opposition, which is mostly made up of nobles, to explain the 'urgency' of the bills.

Earlier, King Tupou VI had called for the removal of the PM. And this is a serious situation that Tonga is facing.

Malakai Kolomatangi, a professor at Massey University said the Tongan Parliament is in a deadlock. Kolomatangi said the island kingdom is facing all sorts of problems. "And this is of course layered on top of what you have in parliament and government. This is really, really bad." Kolomatangi said the PM should seriously get proper advise and get people around him who can actually offer him that advise.
