The Vanuatu Parliament is geared to debate a proposed expansion of the size of the cabinet.

Esmon Saimon, the Speaker called for the sitting on the advice of the Prime Minister Charlot Salwai who is looking at amending the Constitution. Salwai wants the Cabinet to be increased to a third, from the present 13 ministers to 17.

He said some ministers have too many portfolios to take care of.

However, nothing has been decided as there appears to be a split in the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Biosecurity and Forestry and the Ministry of Trade and Commerce.
