The clean election initiative for a ‘money-free and fair election’ launched by the Apatani Youth Association (AYA) has garnered overwhelming support from various youth organizations, Gaon Buras and local public in Ziro, AYA said in a release today.
After kick-starting the campaign, the youth organization had conducted series of phase-wise awareness programmes at various villages and educational institutes in the valley. The initiative saw a major success on Sunday after a public platform speech cum MoU signing of the contesting MLA candidates took place at Dree ground, Birii, amidst a gathering of a huge number of local public. Both the candidates delivered their campaign speeches and later signed the 13-point MoU swearing to maintain and observe a money-free and fair election with the president and secretary of Apatani GB Welfare Association as the witness signatories.
BJP’s Tage Taki and INC’s Nani Ribia are vying for the 17-Ziro-Hapoli Assembly seat. The AYA hoped that voters would denounce the cash-for-vote trend during the election.
Tanw Supun Dwkn, Apatani Women Association of Ziro, and Apatani Students Union also attended the program. The simultaneous assembly elections in Arunachal Pradesh are slated for April 11.
